Five month old Dean is nothing short of a fighter. He was born with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, an enlarged and thickened heart muscle, an extremely rare condition in someone so young. At just two weeks of age, Dean started treatment with specialists at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. He is on heart medication that allows his heart to do less work and he will eventually need a heart transplant.

There is, however, a silver lining in this. His Mom, Dad and three sisters, six year old, Isabella, five year old Olivia, and three year old Giovanna have been able to stay at the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware. Having a “home away from home” has allowed the family to be together and nearby Dean while he is hospitalized. The girl’s favorite part about the House is the first floor playroom which has a giant pirate ship, computers, and train tables. They also can burn off extra energy in the romper room which has a big area to run around and riding toys. The girls also like the desserts that are always available in the kitchen!

Dean has an incredibly loving and supportive family who are hopeful that things will get better. This has been an extremely difficult time for the family, however, they continue to remain strong. Little Dean couldn’t have a better family to back him up, and this includes his Ronald McDonald House family as well.
