12 Mar “It’s the support that keeps me coming back”

Tara Stevens first stayed at the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware six years ago when her youngest daughter needed heart surgery just four days after she was born. Last fall, Tara unexpectedly found herself back at the House after four of her five children were in a serious car accident. Two of her children walked away with minimal injuries. Christina, 10, who had just started the fifth grade, sadly passed away and Christopher, 15, suffered serious head trauma. As Christopher was air-lifted to Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, Tara knew she could count on the Ronald McDonald House to provide the care and support she would need.

Immediately following the accident, the House became Tara’s “home away from home” while Christopher recovered from his injuries. She said the staff and volunteers went out of their way to help, while allowing her to be there for Christopher. In her words, everyone said “What can I do for you” and always with a smile.

Now, Tara and Christopher often stay at the House when Christopher has follow-up appointments. Tara is so thankful for the House, its assistance, and support during her time of need. She says it is the little things that make a big difference and “it is the support that keeps [her] coming back… I adore it here.”
